歌詞是在說:

他問她以後想做什麼，女生說以後我想出名想成為電視明星，但是他可以在這中間幫她做事，他說他並不想，因為他以後的前途一片看好，她告訴他或許賺點小錢，以後會過得還不錯，但她可以給他會更好的時光。於是男子想一想說，決定答應女生的要求，他可以開她的車當他的司機，不過當他要當司機後，她告訴他實際上她並沒有車，但她已經找到一個駕駛而這正是開始。

註：drive my car也有性暗示，意示"上我吧"。

歌詞是一個很簡單的對話與故事，看了一下 wiki，上面說到:其實約翰藍農有一天與大家在開會，討論寫新歌，而他心中一直有個旋律，但是歌詞他始終認為寫出來可能會是一個「災難」，本來想用"你可以幫我買個鑽石耳環"來做開場，但越想越不對，而且在之前的"Can't buy me love(不能買到我的愛)" "I feel fine(我還好)"裡面都有使用類似的字眼，而且這樣的字句太多已經像是垃圾、也太柔軟，他不想要這樣的感覺。保羅認為這是個很最困難的創作之一，(因為他們想要突破)，於是他們決定重寫，最後想出用"drive my car"當做主題，並讓歌詞隨意的發揮。

很喜歡這首歌，因為這個曲子用輕鬆的拍子，略帶幽默與誘惑的口吻，雖然歌詞的主旋律並沒有太大的起伏，甚至前三句的主音幾乎是同一個音，（用同一個音可以唱完三句還覺得好聽），但輕跳的拍子與藍調帶搖滾背景音樂的搭配人感到很娛悅。透過特舒鼓聲與印度琴solo，透過鋼琴彈跳躍音，特別是嗶嗶的地方，很少歌是用這個做串場的，讓我有股衝動想按喇，哈。
